Australians…. and Canadians… and Europeans… and Japanese… and Koreans…
Australia became an independent country on 1 January 1901
The United States of America has been in many wars since Australia’s independence, some just, some unjust, but the only country to fight along side it in every conflict has been Australia. That is why ordinary Australians used to get special privileges when visiting the US Congress, such as visiting the chamber floor.
Then came Trump, enabled by: the Republican Party; the explicit support of 29% of the electorate; and the tacit support of 41% of the electorate (who didn’t vote).
Despite have a trade surpluses (in goods AND services) in the US’s favour, we are being tariffed.
Now, the official US policy is that it “should be running up the score” against Australia.
If Americans want to be transactional, so can Australians, and others who have been economically vandalised and disrespected by Trump.
It is economically rational for non-Americans:
1. boycott US goods and services;
2. disinvest from US companies;
3. sanction the US government.
The result will be stronger non-US companies and stronger non-US trading partners who will also be respectful, good and reliable security partners.
What happens if democracies structurally seperate from the US, and Trump/MAGA are replaced with enlightened leaders? Nothing for at least a couple of decades while the US tries to earn the respect of other democracies.
We Australians aren’t the only one being bullied, so please join in.
